Artist Statement

I create with glass because it’s a thrilling process and it fills me with pride that I continue an art form that goes back thousands of years in time. Glass allows me to work for myself and do something I love all day. I relish in the fact that I can sketch out ideas and make them into physical objects.

Jessie and I create pieces based on ideas that engage the spirit. For example, we share a love of Mexican folk art because it celebrates day-to-day living in a particularly colorful way. Wanting to elicit these positive emotions for others, we design using bright and bold colors because they are uplifting and pleasing to the eye. We strive to keep the ideas simple so that it’s not overwhelming and the viewer can appreciate the thought that goes into each piece.

Our current work is designed to be functional and is heavily inspired by our combined Basque and Latina heritage. Jessie’s background in engineering influences our attention to detail and my experience with Web design plays a big role in deciding the composition of colors. We explore different ways to incorporate pieces of our heritage in clever arrangements and challenge ourselves to develop our ideas all the time.
